The children at the border

Sons and daughters. Toddlers; even infants.

Terrified, traumatized, innocent children being torn from their parents on American soil.

We’re sickened – as parents, as Americans, as people – by the stories of children being ripped from the arms of their parents at the southern border.

It's hard to believe that this is taking place in the United States. But it is happening and we must not look away.

Because this is not who we are.

The hands and hearts of immigrants built this country and together, as Americans, we have prided ourselves on providing refuge to those fleeing violence and atrocity abroad. What this White House and Attorney General Jeff Sessions have authorized – allowing border agents to forcibly separate children from their parents – is not only un-American, it is morally shameful.

Let's be clear: there is no law requiring that children be taken from their parents. This is a Trump administration policy and it could be rescinded today, by the president, at the stroke of a pen.

But the Trump administration has made a choice. A choice to tear apart families and leave innocent children with unimaginable scars.

It's time to stop this. Demand that this be policy be revoked. Make your voices heard.
